Jessica’s Vision for Chicago’s Schools

Jessica believes that strong communities have strong neighborhood schools and share a responsibility to support each other’s growth. She put this belief into action as a school leader.

Jessica believes that the quality of your local schools should not be determined by your zip code. She believes every child has a right to an excellent education.

Jessica believes that schools should be places where young people feel included and embraced, where learning starts with student agency and offers real-world application, and occurs in 21st century learning environments.

Jessica believes that our city’s magnet, specialty and selective enrollment schools are important options for families and provide spaces for students from across the city to learn with each other. She is committed to ensuring these schools are accessible to families.

Effective board governance requires that our strategy reflects our communities' priorities. It requires that our leaders regularly report back on progress using evidence and that we adjust our best-laid plans when they fall short of our aspirations for our students.”
