Jessica Biggs Announces Candidacy for Chicago’s Elected School Board; First 6th District Candidate to Garner Over 1,000 Signatures

Chicago, IL – Jessica Biggs, a prominent community and school leader with 20 years of experience in education, is entering the race for school board in Chicago’s newly created 6th District. Biggs is the first district candidate to secure more than 1,000 ballot petition signatures entirely with volunteer support, and enters the race with significant momentum and widespread support.

“The return of an elected school board to Chicago is a pivotal moment for our city,” says Biggs.  “As a CPS parent, I have a personal stake in the district’s success, and as a Board member, I would seek to foster strong collaboration among students, teachers, parents, and community. I believe in local decision-making over centralized control and want to ensure, collectively, that every Chicago community has a school worthy of its students.”

A former school principal at Burke Elementary School in Bronzeville, Biggs joins the race with the strong support of 3rd Ward Alderwoman, and City Council Finance Committee Chair, Pat Dowell and 4th Ward Alderman, Lamont Robinson. Jessica stands ready to partner with District parents, educators, community groups and elected officials to ensure that educational equity becomes a reality for our city’s students.

“As we approach this historic election, I stand ready to lead with integrity, dedication, and a clear focus on the future of Chicago’s schools,” continues Biggs. “My campaign is built on the foundation of empowering communities and ensuring that every child has access to a quality education.”

Biggs is poised to bring her vision and background in education and community leadership to Chicago’s schools. Biggs is a dedicated community leader who believes in creating inclusive and engaging learning environments where young people feel embraced and learning is relevant and empowering. Above all, she is a champion for educational equity and seeks to partner with constituents across the diverse geography that is District 6, from Bronzeville to Bucktown.
